Musical mentor: Don’t let fear destroy your singing dreams

Taking a big step of faith is hard, but living a life full of regret is even harder.

We all have things in our lives that we would love to “go for” or accomplish. For some it’s going back to school and getting that degree, for others it’s starting a business and for many, it’s stepping out into that seemingly impossible dream.

I think it’s safe to say that for most people, fear of the unknown is the biggest wall, road block, dream killer or whatever metaphor fits in your particular situation.

There are always so many questions — “What if I fail?” “What if it really isn’t meant to be?” “What if my dream isn’t from God?” “What if I run out of money?”

The list goes on and on. And so many people focus on all of negative possibilities, eventually become consumed and give up.

A good friend of mine is the exception to what I just described above.

He has decided to take a huge step of faith and follow what he believes that God has put into his heart. He has quit a very good-paying job doing something that he is extremely talented at, moving his family and believing God for direction.

For most of you reading this, I’m sure your first thoughts are that this guy is absolutely crazy — what about providing for his family? How can he quit a job before he has secured another one? These are definitely legitimate questions and concerns.

But instead of allowing himself to settle and not pursue what he believes is God’s plan, he has decided to take that step of faith and trust. God will never give you the entire roadmap, itinerary or play-by-play plan. He promises to lead, guide and direct us, our job is to trust and obey.

What are you allowing fear to keep you from today?

My son is also a musician, and has a dream of fame and fortune. He knows Jesus, but is only 19 and following His Lord and Savior is not always easy for him. My dream is that whatever path he takes whether secular in the field or Christian Contemporary or Worship that he glorify God with his gifts.
Danelle, you are an inspiration for anyone who has a dare to dream something different and may we always Glorify God in all we do!
