So many S’mores, so little time: Variations to campfire staple

While my family’s campfire dessert of choice has evolved into grilled open-fire eclairs, that doesn’t mean we don’t enjoy a S’more or two from time to time.

And why not? They are tasty, quick and easy to make. Simply toast a marshmallow and slap it between two graham crackers with a bit of chocolate.

The fun, however, comes when you mix things up. Substitute one of the three S’mores staples with another tasty option and the potential variations become nearly endless.

Like in the S’more below … the chocolate comes in the form of a peanut butter cup. Suddenly, a rich peanut buttery taste is infused into the melted creamy goodness of the traditional S’more.

Not a fan of peanut butter? Substitute your chocolate with a York peppermint patty, Nutella spread, your favorite fruity jams or jellies or other meltable gooey goodness.

Another variation … drizzle some caramel sauce over the melted marshmallow before closing up your sandwich creation.

Or, replace the outer graham cracker with something else sweet and just as tasty … like an Oreo cookie shell or large chocolate chip cookie.

In fact, I know one person who takes his Belgian waffle iron and sandwiches a few melted marshmallow and chocolate between two freshly cooked waffles.

And what about the marshmallow? There are diehard campers that save marshmallow Peeps to toast over a campfire and use in their S’mores. There are many flavors of Peeps nowadays, and they give you so many options.
